Step by step guide on how to book your newborn film & photo session
Book your newborn session early
If you’re expecting, now is the perfect time to book! I’ll pencil you in around your due date to reserve space in my calendar. Since due dates are more of a general guide, this ensures I’ll be ready for you whenever your baby makes their arrival. Once everything is set, I’ll be on standby, excited to hear your wonderful news!
Reach out once your baby arrives
When your little one arrives, simply get in touch, and we’ll finalize a date for your session. Whether it’s finding a time between midwife visits or waiting until you feel ready, the focus is on what works best for you and your family. There’s no rush—this time is about celebrating your new baby, not adding pressure.
What if you’re not ready right away?
While those first two weeks are ideal for capturing your baby’s delicate, newborn look, it’s completely okay to wait until you feel more settled. Babies are beautiful at every age! If you prefer to wait, we can document different stages of their early months. For example, by four months, you might see sweet smiles, and around eight or nine months, those adorable baby rolls and sitting milestones make for heartwarming keepsakes.

What about location?
I film and photograph newborn sessions in the comfort of your home.
This setting allows me to document your family in a meaningful way, surrounded by the spaces and details that make your story unique. It’s about capturing life as it truly is—snuggled on the couch, sunlight streaming through the windows, or even the everyday chaos that makes these moments real.
Your home doesn’t need to look perfect—trust me, I’ve been there with two kids of my own. Whether it’s a cozy corner, a favorite chair, or the light pouring in from a window, I’ll find the perfect spots to create beautiful, heartfelt films and photos. If the weather cooperates, we might step outside for a few moments too.
Siblings and pets are always welcome because they’re such an important part of your family’s story. And if your baby is a little older, or it’s a warm day, we can consider an outdoor family session for a fresh perspective on these precious memories.

FAQ
When is the best time to do a maternity session?
The ideal time for a maternity session is between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy, when your belly is beautifully rounded, and you’re still feeling relatively comfortable.
Where can I have my maternity session?
Your maternity session can take place outdoors at a scenic location, like a national park or at the river in the Hawkesbury, or in the comfort of your home for a more intimate feel. We’ll discuss options to find the perfect setting that reflects your style and story.
What should I wear for my maternity session?
Flowy dresses or soft, fitted outfits that highlight your bump work beautifully. Neutral tones and simple patterns photograph well and keep the focus on you and your connection with your baby. I’m happy to help guide you with wardrobe suggestions!
I have older kids, can they be there for my maternity session?
Absolutely! Including older siblings makes the session even more special, capturing the excitement and bond as your family grows. We’ll create a mix of moments with just you and your bump, as well as playful, candid shots with the whole family.
How long until we get our film & photos back?
Your completed family film and photo gallery will be ready within 6 months of your session. Keep in mind that each film requires between 15-30hrs of my time spent finding the right music, editing the story, color grading the film, and editing the photos. My films are not quick to create but they are lovingly crafted and worth the time spent on them. During particularly busy times or school holidays it can add more time again. Please be patient, I promise it’s worth it.
Can I choose the music for my film?
Choosing the right song for your film is almost an art in and of itself. I only use licensed music, so commercial songs you hear on the radio won’t be an option anyway since it would be illegal for me to use them. If you have a genre preference I’m open to hearing more about that, but generally I recommend leaving the song choice with me. I’m pretty good at it, I promise ;)
When should I book in a newborn session?
It’s best to book your newborn session while you’re still pregnant, ideally during your second or third trimester. I’ll pencil in your due date to ensure space in my calendar, and once your baby arrives, we’ll confirm a date that works for you.
Where do we do photos? Do you have a studio?
All newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your home or in the hospital for those first precious days. I don’t use a studio because I love capturing the natural, meaningful moments that happen in your familiar spaces.
What do we wear for our newborn session?
Choose soft, neutral tones and comfortable fabrics that make you feel good. Avoid bold patterns or logos, as they can distract from the connection and emotions in the photos. Simple outfits allow your baby and your family’s bond to be the focus.
What if I need to feed or my baby is unsettled?
Newborn sessions are completely relaxed and flexible. Feeding, cuddling, and settling your baby are all part of the process, and I’ll work around your baby’s needs. There’s no rush—we’ll take the time we need to capture beautiful, authentic moments.
Do you use any props or do posing?
My approach is natural and documentary-style. I don’t use props or do formal posing, but I may gently guide you to ensure the best light or composition. My focus is on capturing your family’s real-life connection and the love you share.
Why are films so much more expensive?
I have spent years developing my craft as a storyteller, and thousands of dollars on equipment to be able to shoot and edit video. I spend anywhere from 15-20hrs (sometimes even longer) to create a film, and it’s not something I can sit down and work on in small blocks of time. Video requires a great deal of time spent editing to get things just right, far more time than it takes for photos and an even greater amount of creative energy. It might seem expensive, and for sure it’s a huge investment that not every family can afford, but I guarantee you it's worth it and the value of that film will increase with every year that goes by after you've had it made.
